Residents said that they heard an explosion and then went down to see their golf cart on fire.
In Petaluma, a golf cart caught on fire in the garage.
Petaluma Fire Department responded to an Azure Apartment Homes fire on Technology Lane at 9:21 pm Wednesday.
When the fire department arrived, they found that smoke was coming out of the garage on the first floor. The fire sprinklers were activated when firefighters gained access to the garage.
Residents told firefighters that they heard a loud bang while upstairs. The residents went down to check and discovered the golf cart was on fire. They called 911.
The fire was brought under control by firefighters in just 5 minutes.
The golf cart was not damaged by fire, but the garage was affected by water.
Mike Medeiros, Petaluma FD Battalion chief said that it was decided to keep the utilities on and allow the residents to stay in the house due minimal smoke and heat damage.
Medeiros stated that the Petaluma Fire Prevention Bureau was investigating the cause of fire on Thursday.
Medeiros stated that the Petaluma Fire Department was happy to announce there had been no injuries among firefighters or local residents. We also want to express our gratitude to the surrounding partner stations for the assistance they provided during the incident.
Medeiros stated that the incident served as a reminder to the importance of having a working smoke alarm and a carbon monoxide sensor.

The fire was only the second in the same number of days that a working sprinkler system prevented major damage.
