A reported fire was called in at Park at Callaghan Apartments, Callaghan Rd. Just before 9:00 a.m., firefighters were called to a reported structure fire at the Park at Callaghan Apartments on Callaghan Rd.
When firefighters arrived, they found tenants already evacuated and that the fire originated from an apartment unit on the 2nd floor.
Officials stated that firefighters were working to put out the fire when they discovered it had spread into nearby apartments as well as the attic.
A second fire engine was called to assist the initial crew. The officials said it was nothing out of the normal.
The standard protocol that we follow for large apartment buildings is to get the resources as fast as possible. The fire was knocked out by crews who attacked the interior of it.
The fire was able to be put out by additional crews.
Just before 9am, Reyna Hernandez had just woken when the fire started.
As I lay back down, I heard someone banging the door and shouting, “Fire, fire! Everyone get out!” Hernandez said, “Everyone get out.” I ran in. We ran outside with my dog. When I came outside, the entire left side of building was on fire. “I saw that the flames were also rising in the trees and people just fled out”, Hernandez said.
Four apartments were damaged by smoke and fire, according to officials. Four additional apartments suffered water damage, bringing the total to 8 affected apartments.
Officials said that the apartment complex was working hard to rehome tenants.
Both tenants had minor smoke inhalation and burns. Both were not transported to a local hospital.
There were no other reported injuries.
The officials commended the tenants who evacuated and alerted their neighbors.
Officials say that fire crews are expected to remain at the scene for several hours in order to put out some hotspots and to conduct an inspection.
The fire officials don’t know the cause of the fire.
