The solar panel installer was electrocuted when installing the panels
A Roofer was electrocuted in Singapore while installing solar panel on the roof of a building.
Three days prior to Tanjong Pagar’s collapse, on the 12th of June, another Roofer lost his life.
Singapore has already had 14 deaths on the job this year.
An exposed cable was touched by a worker installing solar panels
The Straits Times reported that the worker had been installing solar panels at a rooftop building on 12th June.
While working, he noticed a “circular cable” that was emitting smoke.
The cable must have come into contact with him somehow, as he was then electrocuted.
After being transported to hospital, he died from his injuries the next day.
The cable lay on a roof that was wet
Lianhe Zaobao said that preliminary investigation revealed that cable lay on a roof that was wet. According to reports, the roof had been wet by rain prior to the incident.
The WSH warns that electrocution poses a significant risk during the installation of solar panels.
Panels exposed to the sun can still generate electricity.
In order to prevent electrical accidents, the council suggests that businesses take measures like insulating any exposed components or stopping all electrical work in rainy weather.
A plan must be in place for contractors to protect them from falling.
There have been 14 workplace fatalities so far this year 2023
ST stated that Singapore recorded 14 workplace-related deaths in 2023.
Even though the 46 recorded last year is a far cry, this number remains alarming.
This form is to be used to report violations of safety and health at work to the Ministry of Manpower.
