GATESVILLE TEXAS — Each week, from Monday to Friday at Texas Department of Criminal Justice Woodman Campus Gatesville, six women work toward certification as RV Technicians.

Stephanie Farris, student Stephanie Farris said she does not get tired.

“It is the weekend. Everyone gets to relax. Me, I just want to know if it is Monday. When am I going back to class? ‘,” Farris said.

Angela Gilbreth was also looking to kill time when she found this class.

Gilbreth commented, “It is something I have been looking for but never knew I needed — It has filled in a huge void.”

Gilbreth Farris Tamara Lewis are all students who ended up in the Woodman campus through different circumstances. The program they chose has not only given them a chance to find a profession, but also some hope.

Gilbreth added, “This program helped to build my confidence and has worked internally on me.”

Not just me with my labels and convictions, but someone else who could do more than simply live my lifestyle. Someone that is able to become the person that I feel I deserve to become.

The women of this community found hope, despite the fact that they were in a seemingly hopeless place.

Octavia Watson, a program graduate who says she was helped by her peers to finish the program.

Watson said that they all “kind of” helped one another. For example, the girls in front of her passed me notes. And then I handed on stacks and piles of notes.

These groups offer more than just classes. There is a strong sense of belonging and achievement.

“I was so proud of myself the last time my family and I went through water in our backyard. Farris said, “It feels so good to be successful. It’s an amazing accomplishment.”

After they finish the program they will be certified RV Technicians. You’ll learn how to deal with everything, from plumbing to electrical issues.

The most important thing is that they’ll have a plan to help them move on with their lives.

Lewis told reporters: “I truly believe that the program will allow us to rebuild our life because, you know we’ve suffered so much in coming here.”

When you come here, your life is ruined. This is an amazing opportunity. I feel like there’s just no way out. It’s huge.”

Ron Hoover RV reps, the company that is partnering up with Windham school districts to deliver this course say RV workers are in high demand.

“Our industry has a very serious problem.” Mike Anthony said, “We have a need for technicians.

The fact that we are in need of technicians is part of the reason why “we’re serving ourselves.” The opportunity to use those candidates is one of the best opportunities we have.”

Anthony has said that his firm is interested in hiring only qualified candidates, regardless where they received their certificates.

The program already has two successful applicants.
