This repeat offender is connected to eight robberies that took place in Eixample, where he stole money, jewelry and other valuables totaling 38,000 Euros.
Mossos d’Esquadra arrested a repeat thief who they linked to eight robberies in tourist apartments of the Barcelona district Eixample where he seized cash, jewelry and other valuables amounting to 38,000 Euros. The Generalitat Police reported on Wednesday that the detainee, aged 58, had a total of 19 criminal convictions, with 16 being related to similar crimes.
Detainees located apartments and flats intended for tourists in Eixample and exploited the constant turnover of customers, unaware of previous thefts. He did this by conducting surveillance in the area of the building, before entering its interior. The neighbors were accustomed to tourists’ constant movements and so were unaware that the previous robberies had taken place.
He entered with illegally obtained keys or codes of access.
Criminals are able to use the knowledge of building corners, tourist exits and entrances as a way of hiding when they hear noises. He used keys, access codes or utensils that were not damaged to gain entry into the apartment.
In the course of this investigation, eight robberies have been related to and solved, four of which occurred in the same apartment building at different dates. Investigators detained the suspect on 12 September and handed him over two days later to Investigative Court Number 25 in Barcelona.
