A Jersey islander said she “thought she would have a stroke” when she saw the damage done to her home.
St Clement St Martin Fliquet and St Martin were all affected by a “significant” tornado on Thursday, during Storm Ciaran.
Some islanders have been unable to get back home because of storm damage. Around 80 houses remain without electricity.
Angela Mitchell is the owner of a farm located in Grouville. She said that her property was damaged during The Great Storm Of 1987.
Storm Ciaran, she said, had destroyed trees that were planted many decades earlier.
This is even worse.
She said, “We’ve lost some large trees, but I know we can cope. But this…I don’t even know what we are going to do.”
Terry De Ste Croix lived in Fliquet in the same house for over 50 years.
He said that he didn’t know whether he could ever move back into the house.
He said, “Everyone has been working together and I’m hoping they won’t need to tear down the house as I’d like to return.”
It’s nice, but you’ll have to wait a while before we return.
According to the Beaufort scale of wind speed, the Tornado and storm Research Organization has classified the tornado as T6.
Its website said this classed it as a “moderately-devastating tornado”, capable of reaching speeds of up to 161-186mph, or 73-83m per second.
